The Capital Grille. A review.

After 2 years I have returned. I had such a good experience the first time I had high hopes for this visit.

Not listed but on offer tonight is the lobster bisque. After hearing two other lobster specials it sounds like they have plenty of lobster in the kitchen so my bet wagered that this would be a good choice. Full of claw meat, some cooked more than others but overall really delicious. So often at other restaurants this soup disappoints me but not here.

The wedge salad is just gorgeous. Generously dressed with blue cheese and thick pieces of crisp bacon. A few cherry tomatoes for color. Delicious classic.

I ordered the porcini rubbed ribeye with aged balsamic glaze and it is absolutely divine. The meat itself is excellent quality, cooked exactly as I specified and the seasoning was dead on.  I would not hesitate to order this again.

The truffle fries are not to be missed. I am sorry but fries just never get old nor do truffle anything.  Creamed spinach is tasty but not their best side. However, that said I will not not order creamed spinach if it's on a menu.

The service was quite good but I will say this as a bit of an insider. I am a popular food writer and generally get excellent service for obvious reasons but tonight my date is a regluar and picking up the bill so he's getting much more wait staff attention that I am. I let that slide and just be grateful the table is being well attended to and the food is fantastic even though I feel a little like arm candy afterthoughts.

Did I mention the wine list? It can keep up with the great food without so much as flinching.
