Drift is beautiful inside and frankly surprising to find a such an elegant Buckhead feel in the heart of East Cobb. Clean crisp elegant lines in the decor, Oyster bar full on display and a very busy bar. I'd like to say you can go here to skip the Buckhead traffic but East cobb suffers the same road conditions. It's a welcome options for the locals. I am happy to say after waiting a few weeks they are now open for lunch as well a dinner. The menu boasts locally farmed ingredients when available.
Onto the food! The menu is nearly pure seafood along with an impressive bar menu which includes house infusions. I happened to order an infused tequila and it did not disappoint. The oyster bar has it's own chef and I ordered off menu, 6 flash fried oysters. The server was happy to accommodate. They came to the table big fat and juicy with just the right amount of crispness. We also ordered the calamari which is tossed in a spicy sweet thai sauce and lots of sauteed onions. Incredibly tender and nice balance of flavors. We're off to a good start here.
The hushpuppies have vibrant green chives minced into the batter and are served with a sweet butter. I have no shame in saying I ate the whole basket myself. This made the rest of my dinner go into a take away container.
Atlantic grouper seared and perched atop sticky rice with a tasty asian reduction was absolute heaven in the mouth. Generous garnish of scallion and lemongrass added vibrant herbacious notes and crunch. Were I not so full of hushpuppies I may have ordered a second plate of this entree.
The salmon had a seasonal preparation that included fava beans and gorgeously sauteed shiitake mushrooms with a vinagrette that seemed rich like a buerre blanc. Also a tasty side of parmesan grilled asparagus.
Take out box now full, I wanted dessert so I had a bit of room for it. Individual chocolate silk pie with a mountain of fresh whipped cream and wine soaked dried cherries finished dinner off perfectly. Grown up pineapple upside down cake has a nice moistness albeit more on the pound cake than sponge cake, not that there is anything wrong with that.
Really attentive serivce, Drift is well staffed with a great energy. Nice date or girls night restaurant.
